How to Maintain Your Car’s A/C System

Routine maintenance is necessary for a well-functioning A/C system. The most common task is an air filter change, which is recommended at about 12,000 to 15,000 miles. An A/C recharge is a fresh refill of the refrigerant. It is a rarer maintenance need, recommended every two to three years. In addition to maintenance, there are a few habits you can start to help maintain your car’s air conditioning.

Many systems have different features that make the best use of the climate; for humid days, use the “recirculate” feature to combat the stickiness from entering your vehicle; for dryer areas, try the “fresh air” feature. For times when A/C isn’t needed, we recommend running it at least once a week at the highest and coldest settings to maintain the gas pressure and compressor.
